It's October 28th...Halloween's just three days away, and it's hard for me to believe that. Visible Saint's first production, the documentary film "Mask Up For Halloween," has been off-and-on for months...it started in March, and it seemed like October 31st was far enough in the distance that I might just have all the time in the world. Wrong, bud.
Though I was fortunate enough to film the occasional interview between March and July, the workload seemed pretty light at times...though I understood that things would pick up once August hit and stores began to display their Halloween merchandise. Since August, it's been a blur of filming holiday-related material, and I was also fortunate enough to be able to visit Salem, Massachusetts twice (once in early August, and again between October 22nd and 23rd). I even got to return to neighborhoods in New Hampshire and Maine where I grew up, in an effort to retrace some of my childhood trick-or-treat paths. There have also been some trunk-or-treats back in Pennsylvania, and even a few more interviews. Still plenty more to see and film in the next few days!
Admittedly, there's a lot that still needs to be posted to this website...especially more visuals. I'm working on it, and I'll definitely have more time to do so starting on November 1st.
For now, consider this...the more voices I can include in this project, the better. This is where you come in.
I'm looking for more people to interview, and you really don't have to be an expert on Halloween. I've already been a lucky enough guy to interview some experts on the subject. Love Halloween, and want to tell the world why? Cool. Let's set up that interview. Hate Halloween, and want to convince everybody else to join you? I'd actually be glad to film that interview, too. And if you're feeling camera-shy...at least mention the idea to somebody you know that might be willing to participate in this film. I'd certainly appreciate it. Interviews can be done in person if you're not too far from Northeastern PA, and can always be done through Zoom if distance or preference make it a better option. Even though Halloween 2021 will be over in a few days, I'm hoping to set up interviews in November, December, and January.
Also, if you'd like to be a part of this without speaking on camera, you might still be able to do so. Have any photos or home movies of yourself at Halloween? There's a pretty good chance I'd be able to get some of it into this film! The only major stipulation is that it can't involve a licensed character costume. The film will cover ground from the 1910s to 2021, and I'd be glad to look at and discuss those photos and videos. Feel free to call or send an email.
For now, enjoy the rest of October...and if I don't post another blog before then, have a Happy Halloween!
